The Drone Zone BETA

Contextual Statement

In my Digital Artefact Beta Presentation I discuss how I ended up at the point of creating content for my first episode of the ‘The Drone Zone’ I discuss my reasoning for why I diverted from my original idea, and how the feedback from the pitch affected the medium of ‘The Drone Zone’.

I also discuss what I would’ve done differently if I could start this project over, and how ‘The Drone Zone’ is going to evolve over the course of the next month.

  1. Hey Nicholas,

As someone who doesn’t know a whole lot about drones, I think your DA will help others like me understand the various uses of drones going into the future!

I think it was important for you to highlight the changes, especially talking about how you are going to integrate the visual elements of your research into the podcast. I think grouping these two will not generate a better understanding but aligning research with images may help viewers grasp what you’re talking about much more.

If I were to suggest anything, as much as I understand that platforms such as YouTube provide great research avenues, I think there are great academics behind the concept of drone usage. You spoke about the military use of drones in the past but now they are being used as a tool for general daily use by industries. I think you could also talk about entertainment use such as the Lady Gaga half-time show performance at the Super Bowl and how Intel used them as a visual display for artists. I found Intel’s document on why they used the drones and explained the message behind it all here: (https://www.intel.com.au/content/www/au/en/technology-innovation/article/coachella-drone-light-show.html).

Your DA is interesting, especially for those tech geeks like me. Understanding drones and how those beach photo shoots aren’t the only use for them is a great way to get a conversation started. I’m looking forward to reading and listening to it more in your final piece!

    Lachy.

  2. Hey mate,
Awesome idea and beta presentation. Love the concept of informing people about drones and the specifics regarding an often unfamiliar topic for many people.
Often only encountered recreationally, many people would not really understand how drones are being used around the world for many different purposes, especially in wars and conflicts in which you discussed.
Just a suggestion for some of your upcoming episodes, I believe you could discuss the growing negative attitudes towards recreational drones and issues regarding licensing and people flying in restricted areas, essentially pushing authorities to have to take action.
You could also possibly ask for other people’s opinions on the topic, for example creating an online pole. Below I’ve linked some Facebook groups and sub-reddit’s where you could possibly gain some helpful feedback on this topic.

I myself also own a drone and know first-hand how frustrating it is when people associate all drones with a negative stigma. I’m also aware that if used properly drones can be used for so much good, such as capturing awesome aerial video and photography or to help in construction when surveying land/building sites.
Hope my points have been helpful, I’m keen to see the upcoming episodes.
    Cheers.
